Excerpt from the interview with Donavon published at Conscious Connection Magazine
So I called Grant Lee Phillips, a songwriter I worked with on my third record, Pass It Around. I couldn’t believe my luck, because Grant had three songs he had already written that were perfect: The Way You Catch the Light, Sleeping Good Tonight, and When the River Bends. Grant also helped with lyrics for Big Wave, Little Shack, which my son wrote, and a few others, and I ended up having all these songs that I felt really good about.

From The Desk Of Grant-Lee Phillips: True Tales Of The Rail Part 9 - April 26: Berlin To Amsterdam
"At the station, the staff are warm and welcoming. The engineer apologizes that the studio is due to be updated with the latest digital gear but we’ll have to make do with the old analogue desk and microphones today. A quick scan of the vintage Neumann U47s, and I assure our hosts, “We’ll be just fine.” I recorded a live acoustic performance of my song “Smoke And Sparks,” and those old microphones captured every nuance. I could have made a record there."

Beavis and Butt-Head - Do 'Grant Lee Buffalo - Mockingbirds'
This is for the records. I managed to avoid posting this for a very long time but here it is. The blog is incomplete without a reference to this. If you started listening to Grant Lee Buffalo in 1990s I assume you also watched MTV a lot and no explanation is necessary. If you are a younger fan, here is some information:
Beavis and Butt-Head is an animated sitcom that aired on MTV from 1993 to 1997. It followed the misadventures of two teenagers, Beavis and Butt-head. Interspersed with the episodes were music videos, viewed and commented on by the two title characters.
Info from Muppet Wiki:
During the music video, Mockingbirds by Grant Lee Buffalo, Butt-Head notice there are a lot of big Muppet-like birds there and then Beavis talks about Big Bird and how he never poops.
Script from imbd.com
[watching the video for 'Mockingbirds' by Grant Lee Buffalo]
Butt-head : Is this another video with big Muppets?
Beavis : Yeah, yeah, here we go. Seems like they have these, like, Big Bird things in every video now.
Butt-head : Yeah.
Beavis : I was just thinking, y'know, um, you ever notice, um, Big Bird, he never poops.
Butt-head : Yeah.
Beavis : Yeah, yeah. It's like, they should have him poop. Then it'd be more realistic.
Butt-head : Then Big Bird could have a Big Turd.
